Mary Poppins

The Jenison High School Thespians wrapped up another top notch musical production this weekend. Albeit a little last minute, I was pretty excited to be asked to document their performance of Mary Poppins. It was so fun to capture the students throughout the whole process of their show. With access to backstage, all the pre-show warm ups and finally the amazing production itself, I logged over 2,000 photos! Even getting that down to a reasonable number was a challenge, because there was just so much to shoot.

Unity in the Community

One of my favorite things about our office is the location; we’re in the middle of a very diverse area. I often find myself wandering to the local grocery store, bakery or restaurants to sample amazing authentic flavors. Today was a great opportunity for a cultural immersion of another kind - a chance to witness neighbors coming together in unity for the community.

Little Shop of Horrors

Stopped by the Cedar Springs High School’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. Of course, I had a vested interested since my nephew was playing the role of Mr. Mushnik, the shop keeper. As this is Austin’s final performance of his senior year, I wanted to help capture some moments for him. Great job to everyone involved and congratulations on a wonderful production!

Torn Allegiance

I really enjoy being on the sidelines for these basketball games. I’ve always enjoyed the game and while I never played for my school, Friday night basketball was a big part of my high school experience at Union. The school and gym have been virtually untouched so it brings me back just parking my car and walking in.

Justin + Kristen

“Sorry. I don’t do weddings” was my immediate response when I was asked to photograph Justin + Kristen’s wedding. Yet, there I found myself, on a cloudy November day, capturing the forever story of two truly unique individuals. It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony at Lions & Rabbits in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Little Red

This was a fun session with a little red riding hood and a wolf in pursuit. We got lucky with a very mild November day where the sun would peak out of the clouds at times, creating very dramatic light through the trees.

Walking into Chris LaPorte’s studio, is like a trippy time machine destination that brings me back to my art school days. It is filled with reference materials, paint, pencils, finished art work and stuff in progress.

Jenison Band Invitational

The Jenison Band is a consistent state contender (and champion) in the State of Michigan. Of course, the annual Jenison Invitational occurred on the coldest night of the month. While I only attended the very last exhibition as the competition ended, I was blown away (again) by another group of hardworking students from Jenison High School.
